“We need you more than the children.” Horse and Hound 9.10.08

September 11th, 2008 at 11:11 am » Comments (0)

Awwwww.  Hood River’s Pub Quizzers were caught a little off guard last night – I’m leaving my post at the Horse and Hound to teach writing classes.  Frankly, I’m not sure who needs me more, but I leave the Quiz in good hands. In addition to my bad news, Pub Quizzers at the Horse and [...]

Horse and Hound. 9.3.08

Congratulations to the Terrible Twos for their first big win!
Only a few Pub Quizzers were organized enough to locate a pay stub from March 2005.  Impressively enough, those who did have one had it tidy as a pin with sensitive numbers thoughtfully blacked out.  Now that’s organized!

Even more impressive than their organizational skills were the scores [...]

Horse and Hound Olympics. 8.27.08

August 28th, 2008 at 4:42 pm » Comments (0)

After a week away, Hood River’s Pub Quizzers met with renewed vigor for the art and craft of quiz – eh – taking.   They were surprised by the theme, the Olympics, because nobody could quite remember who had voted for that topic in the first place.  Even though watching the Olympic arm wrestling competition makes [...]

Horse and Hound 8.13.08

August 14th, 2008 at 10:48 am » Comments (0)

Shocking news indeed, this Wednesday night in Hood River.  No more cash prizes? But the Pub Quizzers at the Horse and Hound took it all in stride and answered questions about the world wide web.  They were playing for the fun of it all along… at least I’m pretty sure they were.

Either way, there was [...]

Horse and Hound 8.6.08

The Pub Quizzers at the Horse and Hound do know who lives in a pineapple under the sea, and they also know their Adult Swim on Cartoon Network, and some of them have even heard of Earthworm Jim.

It was a toss up for me between my two trivia loves: Oscar Wilde and cartoons.  I figured [...]

Beware the Puns! Horse and Hound 7.30.08

July 31st, 2008 at 11:51 am » Comments (0)

What’s the name of the pizza restaurant on Oak Street in Hood River? You might not know, because it’s an hour and half away from Portland, but its pretty good pizza.  Well, that’s the situation that Pub Quizzers at the Horse and Hound found themselves stewing about this week while being grilled on Portland restaurants.  [...]

No, I haven’t seen that one either… Horse and Hound 7.23.08

July 24th, 2008 at 9:30 pm » Comments (0)

But then, there are so many movies I haven’t seen, why should drug movies be any different?
The wind went cold this Wednesday night, but Hood River’s Pub Quizzers made it through, perhaps warmed by thoughts of drug-fueled benders long since passed.

The theme invited close scores.  Even so, the evening was led by The Crack Whores, [...]

Too doggone hot at the Horse and Hound! 7.9.08

July 10th, 2008 at 4:36 pm » Comments (0)

How I have longed to be justified to use the word “doggone.”  In this case, I have an actual hot dog:

The steadfast Pub Quizzers out at the House and Hound paid no heed to their whiny, sweaty Quiz Master and took their quiz outside.  My refreshing revenge was watching everyone try to decipher “I can’t [...]

Sandbars and lightning at Horse & Hound

July 3rd, 2008 at 4:31 pm » Comments (0)

We took our chances on the heavy-looking storm clouds and were rewarded another wonderful week outside at the Horse & Hound. And it was lucky we did, because there was a huge turnout last night!  Either despite, or because of, the holiday weekend, we had eleven teams, the biggest crowd I’ve gotten to host so [...]

You mean it isn’t “C plus C Music Factory”? Horse and Hound 6/25/08

June 26th, 2008 at 5:02 pm » Comments (0)

I can’t believe that after looking up “Tsvangirai,” I was tripped up by C+C Music Factory.  I can always rely on the good Pub Quizzers at the Horse and Hound to correct me in a spirited chorus.  But who wouldn’t be spirited?  The weather was so nice that we held the Quiz outside, amid the [...]
