It was a WONDERFULLY warm day at Thirsty Lion on Wednesday. The venue’s exterior wall is all doors, and each one was open, making it seem like the whole side of the building was missing and we were having the quiz outside! A very nice, warm evening to have a quiz!
I have to admit that I’m a bit disappointed at the lack of interesting lighters that folks brought in for bonus points. I asked for either interesting lighters or tricks you can do with a Zippo for the points. What I got were trick-less Zippos with no lighter fluid and a dude who said he could do something very interesting with a Bic, but that it could set the building on fire. Oh yeah. However there was one shining exception: the bear claw lighter. When you push down the button, the claws flared out, the edges lit up, and a nice little flame popped up in the center. Thank you, Hillsburrito team!
Into the quiz we went, with new quizmaster David Gallic by my side. MAN is he a fast grader! We were completely done with the Bingo round and ready for round two by 7:45! This Day in History was round 2- the first time I’d presented that round to the TL crowd. Everyone enjoyed it, especially the team that got a PERFECT score…. I just had to buy ‘em a round for that since I thought a good chunk of that round was pretty challenging. I think the visual clues helped quite a bit.
In the end, Scooby’s Red Rocket took first. I guess the challenge question that looked for the band Earth Wind & Fire was just TOO easy for everybody since all 5 teams in the challenge round got the correct answer. Guess next time I’ll have to come up with something harder!
Answer to the title of this post: a lemon drop with a salted (not sugared) rim. YUK! Seems whoever helped set up the bartender didn’t realize the salt & sugar rimming stuff was swapped until I took a sip of my drink and just about blew my cookies. EWW! BOY that was vile.
