Cartographers of America

Hey, nice lil’ quiz tonight. Some folks tried some drinks for the first time, and I think enjoyed some of the Maiden’s delicious specialty cocktails. The Yazi Drop, with Yazi ginger infused vodka shaken with muddled lemon and a sugared rim, was a popular choice, as was an interesting new one made with pepper infused vodka, which I stupidly forgot to write the name down of. But I got to taste it, and it was definitely one of those “mmm… wait a minute, do I really like this…? Yes… yes I do! MMM” kind of drinks. I’m a cheap-ass so I stuck with good ol’ water (with free refills!), but on some special night I will definitely indulge in one of these fancie-pancies.

A very nice turnout of 39 tonight with some very nice new teams, all three of which made it into the final round: Quiz on Your Grave, The Ladybugs and Cap’n Awesome. Nice job guys! Cap’n Awesome even took home some cash in second place, though it was my beloved Squid Kick who took home the first place prize! Yes, I’m a softy–I let four teams into the final because there was a tie for second. Everyone was just so adorable I couldn’t resist. Woo! I hope to see all these guys again. The Maiden seems to have new teams every week, but these three newbies are naturals and will go places for sure if only they come back.

I loved the Jeopardy question tonight for Famous Cats, in which it was implied Gargamel named his eeeevil cat Azrael after the Islamic Angel of Death, who shares his name. Now I was a Smurfs fanatic when I was a kid, and I don’t remember any episode with an Islamic theme, but if there is footage of Gargamel proclaiming, “Ahhh Azrael, you truly inhabit your name. How glad I am I named you after the Islamic Angel of Death… Ha ha ha HAAAAAA! Islam Islam Islam!!!” please will someone bring it to me or link me to it? That would be something to see.

There was also a cartographer in the house tonight. I found this out when I read a Bingo question involving Cartesian logistics and said, “this one’s for the cartographers in the house,” and heard a wild cheer from Quiz on Your Grave. Welcome, Cartographers of America! We at Pub Quiz Oregon salute you!
