Spamalot

Wow, so many Monty Python fans, so little time… lessee, I don’t even understand all the references but I did receive Spam (but not “a lot,” heh heh heh… just a can) tonight from Ben on C Average, so no matter what happened after that I was happy. I mean, it says “Crazy Tasty” on the side of the can. How can you not be elated?

I was a little disappointed there weren’t more Belmonters in costume, but I did get plenty of songs, a few skits, and even the original score from a band arrangement a Get Yer Ass to Mars member did back in his high school days. I’m sorry, I can’t remember what Python song he arranged but I’m still impressed as hell.

We ran a fun lil’ round 2 in which key scenes from Python lore were played, with key phrases replaced with the words Bob Dole, spoken by the great man himself. I recognized none of them. Zero. But every team got at least half of them right, with many getting the whole shebang. Amazing how much this phenomenon has infiltrated our culture and continues to be relevant and beloved to this day. I’m going to have to go back and watch Life of Brian, Holy Grail, and all the other classics. Don’t want to be left out!

Anyway a nice, tight little match tonight with two teams tied for second place going into the final round, AND two teams tied for second. The first-placers, Hump Our Faces (who shouted their name, in unison, at every opportunity throughout the night) and Get Yer Ass to Mars, BOTH got the final round question, but it was the Hump who took home the prize, thanks to their bold betting. Meanwhile, GYAM’s conservative betting dropped them into third, with new team Overdrive (manly, no?) taking a surprise second. Nice job all around!

Spam, spam, Penis, Socrates, Cheese Makers and so forth.
