Toe to toe with Amerigo

Happy Independence Day!

Fun night at good ole Bridgeport. Thanks to the lovely Carly for her expert assistance. I have to admit, I thoroughly enjoyed putting together the America-themed playlist. My favorites (and yours, too from the lip-synching I witnessed) were Neil Diamond, James Brown and the Team America theme song - Fuck yeah!

Note to self: Don’t forget to remind folks NOT playing the quiz to refrain from yelling out answers for fear of their safety from rabid quizzers. A rat bastard blew the whistle on Amerigo Vespucci as he walked out, drawing ire from the crowd. Argh!!

Anyhoo, it was a close game throughout the night. Lots of folks came in with flags-a-waving and it certainly helped - three of the top five teams were helped by this week’s bonus points.

The top five changed up almost every round, which was rather dramatic. One crazy, titillating moment came when five, count ‘em, FIVE teams yelled and jumped up to claim their Bingo bonus. Y’all bum-rushed Carly and me, and when we checked it out y’all indeed got Bingo. 30 bonus points divided by 5 is 6. That sure did kept the scores tight and the game exciting!

Benedict’s Revenge took the lead for a while, then the Sallies. In the end, it came down to the final challenge category of American Education and the wagers. Harvard kept folks in the game, William and Mary ousted. (Unfortunately, the Sallies’ Harvard grad was convinced that William & Mary was older than his alma matter!)

Big congrats to Clarification Please for their well-deserved, all-American victory!

Props, too, to Benedict’s Revenge and the Fighting Menonites for hanging in there and coming in 2nd and 3rd.

See you next time!
