Or you’ll totally forget what the hell you had worked up in your own head to write about. Yeah, that’s the ticket! Sheep Shaggers are on a roll, they’ve won two weeks running at the Parkway Station out in the boro. We had a fun night tonight. I think the theme, the NTT and the fruit just made for a nice girly time. We’re building up to a great little quiz at the Parkway. Thursday this week was misisng out on some regular teams, which I am sure were all at home taking shots during the debate. I had a vision of folks doing a tequila shot every time Palin said “The great state of Alaska” or “Special Education” good luck walking to the toilet if you play that game.
Two of our teams at the Parkway Station actually knew the answer tonight to the question about Siouxsie so the final teams were a little scrambled and third ended up taking second, with first placers that chose the question, the Chicksee Dicks, losing all the points save 8 in their wager.
A little shout out to the Parkway, I’ll begin filling in at the Bridgeport Brewery next week for Alisa (it’s baby time!) so I won’t be out in the Boro on Thursday nights. Lots of you got to meet Leandra tonight, she will be taking my post there at the Parkway. Alas, dont’ fear my dear Parkway Patrons I leave you in good hands. I have faith she will be a great replacement for me and to ease your minds here are some ways in which we are similar:
1) We are BOTH 6′1 (This is incredible…how many women over 6 ft do you know??)
2) We are BOTH redheads (How many women over 6ft do you know WITH red hair?)
3) We are both stunningly gorgeous
4) We both live within driving distance of Parkway Station
5) We are both really really really really really smart
6) We both wear glasses (very similar ones actually–though I generally wear my contacts)
7) We both seem to have a penchant for the color black
We both seem to hate Sarah Palin
9) We both know how to read
10) Leandra used to be on Beige Food—I Like to eat some beige foods.
Ok, seriously, you guys are going to LOVE Leandra…and I’m totally telling her about that fist business to keep you all in line. You know what I’m talking about if you’re reading this. F-I-S-T.

Tonight we were up against a struggling economy and the joke of a running mate that is Sarah Palin going up against Uncle Joe Biden. But we still had a small, strong crowd of some of my favorite teams going at it, and one of the tighter, more exciting pub quizzes I’ve had the pleasure to host in some time. That’s right it came down to the wire tonight with pretty much every team being in contention up to the very end. Making things even more interesting, every team scored a perfect score on our anagram handout, meaning the final shakedown truly rested on one, measly little handout: Fruit! Yes, the good ol’ “guess the fruit” handout ended up playing a huge role tonight, throwing teams Go Meat!, Pork Chop Express, and YMBP into the final round on the strength of their staggering ability to identify ripened plant ovaries.
The final round question about Souixsie Souix (I just googled her name and still am not entirely sure I spelled it right) stumped all three finalists, thereby allowing Pork Chop Express to take the cake for a SECOND week in a row… with a score of 8! I secretly love it when the final scores add up to less than my age (47, though I look 43 if I’m a day); makes me think we’re doing something right after all.
But wow, Pork Chop Express! What vitamins are you on? Give me some of that, know what I’m sayin’? ZING! Good job!
Though my favorite moment of the night (besides track #10 of name that tune: “I Will Always Love You”… but I assume that goes without saying. I mean Kevin Costner and Whitney Houston in the same film? Has there ever been a better movie duo in all of history? Maybe, MAYBE Costner and Dennis Hopper in Waterworld… but really Whitney’s sexier, so I gotta go with her. Anyway!) came when Go Meat! guessed “Silence of The Lambs” as the answer to tonight’s audio clue, which was… wait for it now… pause as I laugh again when I think about it… “Funny Girl” starring Barbara Streisand! So, let’s pause again as we assess how many levels on which this is hilarious. Firstly, the clip was a song… it was very clearly a singing clip, as in some sort of musical number. I remind you of their guess: “Silence of The Lambs.” Secondly, Go Meat! GOT the bonus answer!!! They didn’t get the movie right (obviously), but they KNEW it was Barbara Streisand and got three bonus points. So, here’s what, from what I can tell, went through Go Meat!’s mind as they sat at their beer-stained table, struggling with the answer:
“Let’s see… it’s clearly a musical number, and we know it’s Barbara Streisand singing, we got that, so…. let’s see… musical number… Barbara Streisand singing…. OH! I know! I got it! It’s Silence of the Lambs!! The murderous film about cannibalism starring Anthony Hopkins! That’s it! This one’s in the bag!”
And THEN, whoever suggested “Silence of the Lambs” didn’t meet with an entire table of “Dude, are you serious?” but rather, everyone shrugged and kind of nodded and went, “yeah, that’s as good a guess as any.” The whole TEAM went with it.
Oh, the hilarity. Or, at least that’s how I imagine what went down. In reality, Go Meat! was probably joking with that guess because they had absolutely no idea and so just put something ridiculous. At least I hope they were. you guys were, right? Right?
Ciao baby. You have until October 14 to register to vote!

As always a fun crowd at the Horse & Hound this week. In a stunning upset the bar team, The British Bulldogs, pulled off a huge win at tonight’s quiz! Their $38 winnings will carry over into the pot next week - it should be epic as the huge pot draws in comers from all over the world! Okay, all over Hood River County anyway.
The final question was quite difficult, with none of the teams getting a correct answer. Two teams got within 1 year of the date that was the answer - so close! Several teams did exceptionally well on an exceptionally difficult Name That Tune round 2. Big Ups, as they say in Europe. One of our newcomers, a one-man team calling himself The Scrambling Humanzees, did quite well for flying solo! If he heads back our way he would be a really good addition to any team that needs another brain! Or perhaps he will bring friends and form a team the likes of which has never been seen.
Shout outs to Deb, Beverly and Russ, Nicole and Ryan, Susanne and Joe of Sandbar Developers, and the entire team that backs up the lovely Anna. You really make for a kickass pub trivia night.

Yes they did. One of the PQ regular teams came to visit us at the Maiden and decided on a special name for the night - “Scrappy’s Sore Anus”. So I had to say it many times throughout the night. I admit I kind of enjoyed it. I hope I enunciated properly.
Fun night at the Maiden with our record number of players thus far - 46 enthusiastic quiz freaks in the house. Thanks to one and all for coming out to play.
Good efforts on bringing in the band pics. One of the Not-Its even lugged two old high school year books to try her hand at getting some of those valuable bonus points.
Round 1 went smashingly until a new member of Lola’s Big Cups Crew arrived late and yelled out the answer to one of the questions. And she was playing (usually it’s the boneheads NOT playing that do that annoying thing). Don’t worry, she didn’t live it down all night and took it like a champ. My buds Charo’s Angels walked away with some Bingo bonus points and rocked themselves to first place going into Round 2.
Name That Tune was fun with a somewhat easy Bonus Tune. From that round on through the handouts, Bailout 2: Electric Boogaloo (LOVE that name) held on to the lead going into the Final Challenge Round.
The Final Challenge Round included Bailout 2: Electric Boogaloo, Charo’s Angels and Scrappy’s Sore Anus. The Barbra category for the final question turned out to be a toughie and none of the teams ended up answering correctly, so it was down to the wagers.
Congrats to Bailout 2: Electric Boogaloo for they’re well-deserved victory!
Charo’s Angels (coochie coochie coo!) and Scrappy’s Sore Anus tied for 2nd.
One more thing, for those of you who haven’t heard, this quizmaster (yeah, me, Toni) is actually heading for QM retirement. Next week will be my last night at the Maiden and Master Justin will be taking over promptly thereafter. Come by, play, buy me a drink and have some laughs with me for my last night of quiz debauchery. Or else who knows you may see me on team Maiden or Charo’s Angels sometime in the future…

It was a really wonderful night last evening at down at The Ole Thirsty Lion. Everything was running great until I made a mistake like I haven’t done in a long time.
As you know we give the teams a chance to shout out the numbers of any questions they need repeated at the end of the Bingo round. Well one team had asked to repeat the question about how many reindeer santa had including Rudolph… so i repeated the question and then someone yelled out ‘9′… I immediately went into my ‘Please don’t shout out any answers…’ and the team member looked up at me and said…. ‘no repeat question # 9!!’ Crap…. I hate when I tip my hand!!
Anyways… We actually had six teams get into the final round because two were tied for fifth when it was all said and done… In the end though ‘Scooby’s Red Rocket’ came out on top with ‘Finally!’ and ‘Head and Shoulders’ also going home with some cash.
Cheers!

…everybody hates me, guess I’ll go eat worms.
I had the lonely Smokin Aces show up to play Pub Quiz…but nobody else. Oh well….they’ll all be back, and they’ll bring lots of friends, NEXT week, right?? Cool.
I blame it on Iron Man coming out on Tuesday….It was a good movie, though.
Peace

Groovy night last night at Biddy McGraw’s as we celebrated the ladies of the music world… a little bit of a smaller crowd but it was more intimate as I got razzed all night about the Name that tune round… LOL!!!
Sometimes as quiz master you have to root for the little guy. When you have a team of two going up against several teams of 5 and 6 you keep an eye on them through the night and when it’s going into handout rounds and they’re still in the top five or so… you have to root for them a bit…
Sure enough, last night ‘LPG and Her Trusty Nerd’ were hanging in there through round 2 and then Jumped over the 4 person ‘Yellow # 5′ into first place with the handouts going into the final round. Everyone got the easy final question right and going balls to the wall with their final wager ‘LPG and Her Trusty Nerd’ took home the big prize!!! Congrats guys!!! The 6 person team ‘Neat and Punctual’ leaped over ‘Yellow #5′ to take home second.
Well done everyone!!

To much good information sliding through my brain to possibly convey all of tonight’s happenings over at CC’s. I have to just put in my two cents worth and my expression of joyous glee with question 21 from round two tonight, as it will live in pubquiz infamy as “The condom question” My dear writers, please come up with more fun and smutty questions, they always get a “rise” out of the bar. I could go on and on and on here, but I digress, or I will try to.
Charo’s Angels swept back in on their fluttery pubquiz wings tonight to take our winning cash. The Dirty Tryq’s took second. But c’mon, really all I can think about is that damn condom question. Let’s just say it’s been a long time since I walked down that aisle at the drugstore, but MY OH MY the new choices one might encounter if one were to say, check out the website associated with such a popular brand of condom. And I also think that “Waves of Pleasure” sounds like a fine upstanding name for a condom, don’t you? Condoms rock.
congrats to Charros, they got a nice chunk of change with that 25 rollover pot from last week. And please, remember to wear your raincoats!

How fun to do some quizmasterin’ at a new venue! Belmont Inn of course has my heart (and my lungs), but after tonight, I’ll sub for Mr. Dave at the Green Dragon any time! A healthy 53 people showed up for our rockin’ chick edition, which was slightly more than I’d anticipated. I had been told 8 to 10 teams so I didn’t even nail down a grading assistant and was just flying through a mountain of papers by the end, with the powerhouse Scooby’s Red Rocket winning yet another one. Y’all were so quiet! Maybe it’s that sweet Green Dragon outdoor air, but even with over 50 people I felt like you could hear a pin drop… or maybe I’m just used to the relentless, wonderful hootin’ and hollerin’ at the ol’ Belmont Inn.
Saw some awfully sweet old high school band photos, with various pub quizzers in different states of Oboe, trumpet and guitar array. Myself, I was a trumpet player—Oh yeah, nickel plated she was. I called her “Nickle” and couldn’t play her worth a lick (that’s a lie, the naming my trumpet part), but I loved her more than a cowboy loves his horse. Still have that little trumpet even thought I haven’t played it in years. Thing about a trumpet is, you can’t just pick it up and start blatting again after years away. It takes tremendous lip strength to make even coherent sound for longer than a minute, let alone Wynton Marsalis-like melodies. But I just can’t part with it. A part of me still thinks I’ll start practicing again someday and go on the road with the Rolling Stones as their jazz section. A guy can dream…
Cool crowd at the Green Dragon. Had to watch The Scorpions for team size and cell phone use, but they were honest in the end, just nice and drunk and fun. Cute gal on the end even offered to let me wear her pink hat, which I tried to do but it made my head itch. Nothing personal to the hat though (though I will be boiling my scalp tonight).
Also, had a couple folks comment on the rad National album I was playing. Check out the National’s Boxer for one of the best albums of the last several years. Seriously I am addicted to this shit, can’t get enough. And don’t worry, this soapboxing about cool music has a purpose: The National are even radder by way of the fact they are selling one of the coolest Obama t-shirts ever, based on their song, “Mr. November.” It simply says “Mr. November” and has a big ol’ shot of that beautiful man’s face. Clever clever! All proceeds from the shirt go to the Obama campaign too! Since when can you support Justin’s favorite band AND Barack Obama? Since now, Yo!

What a night!! It was great to watch the titan USC team fall to the OSU Beavers!! Hell Yea!! It was also a great night at the Pub Quiz as a lowly newcomer ‘Team Sham’ came into the Bogey’s bowl and took the crown with a conservative wager in the final round. Well Played guys!!
We have a great time out in the Gresh withthe best $5 burger, Fry and Brew special. That’s right you get a huge hamburger, fries and a beer for $5. Where else can you get something like that?? Come on out and check us out at Bogey’s on Thursdays!!
Cheers!
